Annuals are flowers that bloom all summer but do not winter in our climate so need to be planted every year. Annuals are classified in terms of SUN – plants that thrive in 6-8 hours of sun per day, or SHADE – plants that thrive in less than 4 hours per day (northeast, north or northwest exposure or grow under trees).

Tomato plants are one of the healthiest plants and the most rewarding to grow. Be sure to plant against the house or garage, in the warmest, sunniest place and water generously. Tomatoes can also grow well in large patio containers on a deck or balcony.

At Dor’s Garden Centre you’ll find over 30 different varieties including unique varieties produced by a local grower and exclusive to Dor’s.

• Indeterminate varieties need to be staked for support. Beef varieties, Big Boy, Early Girl, Lemon Boy, Fantastic and Heirloom.
• Determinate varieties are bush and they will keep growing until our first frost. Champion, Roma, Patio, Celebrity.
• Cherry Tomato varieties include Sungold, Sweet 100, Tiny Tim, Red Grape, Tumblers and Yellow Pear.

Ornamental grasses are simple and easy to care for. Use grasses in containers alongside other plants to add texture or have fun combining a variety of grasses with different textures and colors. Perennials come back year after year, re-establishing themselves wherever they live in your garden. Foliage may be cut back in the spring or fall to encourage new growth.
